Spring is in the Air: Shedding Pets

In most likelihood, your pet’s shedding at this time of year is triggered by the increase in outdoor temperature as Spring sets in.  Just as we pack away our winter jackets, your pet is beginning to shed that thick winter fur coat which kept them warm during those frosty outdoor walks.  If you suspect that your pet is shedding due to other health reasons, such as irritations, infections or food-related allergies, it’s important to take your furry friend to their veterinarian for a checkup.

Although you can’t stop your pet from shedding completely, there are steps you can take that will help minimize its presence in your apartment! Continue reading to find out how you can minimize shedding or easily clean it up around your home this spring.

Bathe – Especially in the winter, your pet’s skin can become dry. Consider giving your pet regular bathes to clean and nourish their skin and coat with a hydrating conditioner.

Consider brushing your pet regularly, feeding them a quality diet, and involve a specialized bath time into your regular routine to help keep your pet’s shedding under control.

Tips to Tackle Shedding Around Your Apartment

Clothing – Try to stop leaving your clothes in the open to avoid your pet using them as their own personal bed! You can also use dryer sheets when drying your clothes (the hair will stick to the sheets due to the static).

Upholstered Furniture – Keep a lint roller handy. Whether it’s by the front door, in your purse, in the car; you’ll be thankful you have it when you need it!  Running a damp rubber glove or sponge over your upholstered furniture helps to removed embedded fur with ease.

Non-Upholstered Furniture + Hardwood Floors – Microfiber cloths and mops are great because the static electricity helps capture the hair.

Your pets love to lounge around the apartment, but try to keep your clothing out of reach, and simple items such as lint rollers and microfiber towels on hand for quick cleaning.
